Pensacola, FL— Prominently featured in The Inner Circle, Lori Lee Barr, MD, FACR, FAIUM, is acknowledged as a Top Pinnacle Healthcare Professional for her contributions to the field of Radiology.
Dr. Barr pursued higher education at Lipscomb University where she completed an undergraduate degree. She then attended the Louisiana State University School of Medicine where she earned a medical degree and capped her scholarship by finishing a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Known as the Doctor’s Mentor and a trailblazer in the medical industry, Dr. Barr is an internationally recognized pediatric radiologist; inventor; mentor; speaker; and best-selling author. She asserts that she helps her patients and their doctors each year in Pensacola, Florida in many capacities, including career consulting; scaling strategist; and visionary in practice. Boasting more than 30 years of experience in diagnostic image interpretation, the doctor notes that she leverages her pattern recognition abilities to help physician specialists recognize practice patterns that squelch the joy of being the doctor they dreamed of being in medical school. She then works together with the specialists to scale their practice and their expertise to create more time freedom, influence, and profits so the joy returns to the relationships they build with their patients and others they love and treat their patients better. “No need to keep striving for more money, power, or time off if you’ve lost touch with your reason for being. My proteges get clear on where they are; what they want next; and who they need to become to achieve that desired outcome,” Dr. Barr explained.
Dr. Barr explained that pediatric radiology is a subspecialty of radiology involving the imaging of fetuses; infants; children; adolescents; and young adults. She said that pediatric radiologists are specially trained to understand the unique needs of children, parents, and pediatricians in the diagnostic process and many pediatric radiologists practice at children’s hospitals.
A testament to her influence in the field, Dr. Barr is a partner of Radiology Associates of Florida, P.A., where she serves as the Panhandle Member-at-Large; Panhandle Division Director and Chair of the Patient Safety Committee; Chairman of the Department of Medical Imaging at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola; and Director & Chief Curator at The Doctor’s Mentor. She has been recognized by the American College of Radiology (FACR) and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (FAIUM) as a fellow for teaching; research; clinical care; and community advocacy. She is also a Radiological Society of North America Scholar; is board-certified in both pediatric radiology and diagnostic radiology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) which she explained is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties.
The doctor asserts “When I was little, I fell in love with life. I loved growing up in New Orleans and spending summers at my grandparent’s farm in Alabama. I love animals and people. I love writing and reading. When I became a medical doctor, I got to direct some of that love into a career filled with wonder and excitement that continues to this day. I love seeing how beautiful my patients are on the inside and I love how my patients get excited when I show them a picture of how their insides are made or of how their body works.
Aside from her professional pursuits, Dr. Barr insists that she has the time and the resources to direct the rest of her love toward her own mind, body, and spirit and to assist her family and friends as they take care of themselves. She is an encourager to physicians and reminds them that life is more than their medical practice. “The better they take care of themselves, the more likely their loved ones, practice partners, and patients are to be inspired into amazing action in their lives,” she said.
The doctor is affiliated with FACR; FAIUM; RSNA; SPR; and ARS; notes that her favorite professional journals are Gray Journal and Radiographics; and recognizes Dr. Ron Eisenberg and Dr. Swischuk as her mentors. Dr. Barr contributes much of her success to her philosophy of making sure her patients realize how beautiful they are. Looking towards the future, the doctor plans to continue mentoring and treating patients.
In her spare time, Dr. Barr’s favorite place to vacation is the family farm and she also enjoys scuba diving and snorkeling; listening to live music; live stage play; and visiting New Orleans. She would like to dedicate this honor in loving memory to her parents, Sonny and Lee Bar, and thanks them for their love and support.
