Mr. Blum pursued higher education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. He has been in his current position as the Chief Executive Officer of BlüMilo and Sorghum United for five years and explained that international NGO focused on educating about sorghum and developing markets for this versatile grain. With a total of 10 years of experience in the agriculture industry he has also served as the Executive Director of the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board and the Nebraska Sorghum Producers Association from 2019 to 2023.
Mr. Blum asserted that Sorghum United is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to consumer and producer education; market development; entrepreneurial empowerment; and global food security in the sorghum and millets space. There most recent project the launch of a new children’s book series, The Sorgho Squad, featuring characters Jowar; Mashilla; and Milo who are also highlighted in a series of ten posters that underscore the benefits of sorghum in industrial products, healthy diets, and environmental sustainability. These posters were developed in support of the United Nations’ International Year of Millets and are currently on display at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization offices in Rome, Italy. Mr. Blum said that, “The Sorgho Squad book series is a fun and educational adventure based on the premise of finding solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.” The first book in the series, Sorgho Squad Chapter One: From the Ruins Comes Jowar, is available digitally on Amazon, with hard copies that were available for global distribution in mid-August. This book is the first in a planned series of four initial stories introducing the Sorgho Squad characters as they unite to solve hunger; malnutrition; and environmental challenges worldwide. Mr. Blum said that the portion of the revenues from the series sales will support Sorghum United’s global efforts to empower farmers and entrepreneurs by creating resilient and prosperous regional value chains.
Mr. Blum is considered an expert in leadership and innovation in the field of agriculture, particularly in the realm of grain sorghum production, marketing, and value-added agricultural processing for sorghum-based products. During his illustrious career, the professional has made significant contribution to the agricultural sector, particularly in the understanding and market development of sorghum and related small grains. He has also represented Nebraska producers in international agricultural circles and has been involved in facilitating education and market development for sorghum through Sorghum United.
