About Me
Michael S. Coleman, Jr. serves as CEO of the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, a Feeding America affiliate responsible for distributing over 34 million pounds of food annually across 35 counties. Under his leadership, the organization supports hundreds of food pantries and agencies, helping feed more than 25 million individuals. With a $7 million budget, a staff of 48, and a fleet of trucks on the road daily, he oversees operations, fundraising, media outreach, and strategic partnerships.
A retired U.S. Army Captain, Michael’s journey from addiction and homelessness to nonprofit leadership is a testament to his resilience and commitment to service. He holds a Master’s in Christian Theology from Amridge University and an Advanced Non-Profit Certification, and is a four-time Paul Harris Fellow and President-Elect of the Rotary Club. He also founded Hope Inspired Ministries, a nonprofit still thriving today.
Michael is most proud of his two daughters and four grandchildren. His future goals include expanding nonprofit training programs, advancing food equity, and taking his model for food bank and nonprofit collaboration to a national scale. His philosophy is rooted in faith, humility, and lifting others through service.
