Kenneth D. Simmons – Owner and Executive Director

Kenneth D. Simmons, Owner and Executive Director of Recovery Oriented Practices, is making a significant impact in the field of substance abuse treatment through more than 15 years of dedicated service and visionary leadership. Since founding Recovery Oriented Practices in 2014, Mr. Simmons has transformed the organization from a small outpatient program into a comprehensive behavioral health provider operating across North Carolina and South Carolina. His work focuses on delivering effective treatment and support services for individuals with substance use disorders, including those involved in driving while impaired (DWI) cases.

Mr. Simmons oversees daily operations, financial planning, program development, and direct client engagement. Under his leadership, Recovery Oriented Practices has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), achieving a 98% approval rating for service implementation and strategic planning a major milestone for the organization.

Mr. Simmons began his career in behavioral health in 2007, working part-time in intensive outpatient care for children. Motivated by a commitment to serve underserved communities, he became a certified substance abuse professional in 2010 and expanded into case management, peer support services, and community supported employment in 2014.

A graduate of Florida A&M University with a bachelor’s degree earned in 2005, Mr. Simmons is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with expected completion in 2027. He is an active member of the National Association of Addiction Counselors and maintains close ties with CARF to ensure his organization continues to meet the highest standards in care.

In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Mr. Simmons is deeply engaged in community service. He supports civic organizations like Block Love Charlotte and contributes to domestic violence prevention efforts. Through Recovery Oriented Practices, he donates more than 150 backpacks, sneakers, coats, and essential clothing items each year to individuals in need.

Looking ahead, Mr. Simmons plans to expand the organization’s residential services, increase peer support offerings, and continue building a comprehensive behavioral health clinic that integrates outpatient and residential care.
