Dr. Barry S. Lachman has built a distinguished career dedicated to improving community health systems and expanding access to quality care for underserved and marginalized populations. His work focuses on consulting with healthcare systems, providers, and HMO organizations to help them better understand the unique needs of the communities they serve. Through empathy, collaborative engagement, and culturally sensitive strategies, he has led the development of innovative solutions that strengthen health outcomes among vulnerable groups.

Dr. Lachman received his Bachelor of Arts in biology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University School of Medicine in 1970 and completed his pediatric residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. He later continued his clinical and academic development at the University of Washington in Seattle where he completed a fellowship in community health and adolescent medicine, along with a Master of Public Health degree. Dr. Lachman is board certified in pediatrics as well as public health and preventive medicine.

He remains deeply engaged in the medical community and holds active affiliations with the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Association of Health Plans, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Pediatric Society. He is also a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His professional accomplishments are strengthened by his dedication to advancing health equity and supporting populations that are often overlooked in traditional healthcare models.

In addition to his medical consulting, Dr. Lachman is committed to active community service. He has served two terms as a board member with Temple Shalom in Dallas where he oversees the Justice Garden. This program provides fresh produce for individuals and families facing food insecurity within the wider community. He also collaborates with local Black church leadership to develop community gardens that promote health, nutrition, and self sufficiency.

Dr. Lachman acknowledges several highly respected mentors who influenced his work and ethical foundation including David Satcher, MD who served as Surgeon General under President Bill Clinton and was a classmate, along with Victor Vaughn, MD, and Robert Haggerty, MD.

Family remains an essential part of Dr. Lachman’s life. He has been married to his wife, Jane Lachman, LCSW, for fifty eight years. Together they have raised three children and enjoy spending time with their six granddaughters who continue to be a joyful source of inspiration.

Dr. Lachman’s legacy is defined by compassion, innovation, and a deep belief in the power of community collaboration. Through his dedication to both medicine and public health advocacy, he continues to enhance the systems that serve those most in need and remains committed to strengthening health equity throughout the Dallas region.
