Dr. David Kevin Lamb – Retired Director of Music

Clarksville, IN – Prominently featured in The Inner Circle, Dr. David Kevin Lamb is recognized as a Pinnacle Professional Member Inner Circle of Excellence for his contributions to being an Distinguished Leadership in Choral Music.

A respected leader in choral conducting for fifty years, Dr. David Kevin Lamb has made a lasting impact on music education, performance, and worship. Recently retiring from his longtime role as director of music at Trinity United Methodist Church, he now serves as director emeritus. While he formally concluded his leadership duties in December 2024, he remains dedicated to his congregation by completing ongoing music projects and continuing to champion the excellence that defined his career.

Dr. Lamb’s passion for music began early through mentorship in high school choir and faith based performance. He cultivated that passion into a lifelong profession, inspiring countless students and vocalists while enriching communities through choral performance and church music ministries.

A proud alumnus of Indiana University, Dr. Lamb earned a doctorate of music degree while serving for two years as an associate instructor in choral conducting. He also contributed as assistant director of the celebrated Singing Hoosiers, gaining invaluable experience in performance leadership. He previously earned both a Master of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Music Education at the same institution, solidifying his foundation in teaching and musical artistry.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lamb has remained actively engaged in professional associations that support the advancement of choral music and performance. His affiliations include the Reed Organ Society, the American Theatre Organ Society Inc, the National Association for Music Education, the American Guild of Organists where he served as a national officer, the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the Organ Historical Society. He also maintains strong ties to the Indiana University Alumni Association and Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

Dr. Lamb has contributed significantly to community music appreciation including multiple performances of Handel’s Messiah for the Jennie Gebhart Hedden Music Study Club. His influence as an educator and mentor has guided talented students to earn full scholarships and pursue advanced opportunities in collegiate music programs.

Even in retirement, his devotion to the musical arts continues. Dr. Lamb remains active as both singer and organist, sharing his gifts with others in worship and in life. He holds a remarkable personal milestone as well. Since October 1975, he has played the organ for church services without interruption and is currently planning a joyous celebration marking fifty consecutive years of service in this treasured role.

With a legacy defined by artistry, education, faith, and community, Dr. Lamb continues to inspire future generations of musicians while honoring the music that has shaped his extraordinary journey. David Kevin Lamb, DMus 00 was the winner of the OGRagatz Distinguished Alumni Award in 2023. Presented by the IU Jacobs School of Music at the annual banquet hosted by the Indiana Organists United in August 2023. Finally, in 2025, Dr. Lamb established the Dr David Kevin Lamb Organ Excellence Fund, to allow funds to be awarded to organ students for travel expenses to attend national organ playing competitions or convention workshop presentations.
