Jessica Jo Janowsky – Trauma Informed Care Specialist

Jessica Jo Janowsky has dedicated her career to helping children, families, and educators build resilience through trauma informed care, social emotional learning, and holistic wellness. As the Trauma Informed Care Specialist for the Elmira City School District, she provides leadership and guidance that empowers students, supports educators, and strengthens school communities through relationship based healing and evidence based practices.

In her current role, Ms. Janowsky works closely with students, staff, and families to implement trauma sensitive approaches that promote emotional well being, self regulation, and positive relationships. She provides district wide professional development for teachers and aides while delivering individualized Tier 3 behavioral and emotional supports for young children. Her work is centered on helping students develop the skills needed to navigate challenges with confidence, accountability, and resilience.

A passionate advocate for mind body wellness, Ms. Janowsky is the creator of the Yoga M.A.G.I.C. program, which stands for Mindfulness, Acceptance, Gratitude, Integrity, and Compassion, and the Y.O.G.A. program, or Your Objectives Get Accomplished. These innovative initiatives teach children practical mindfulness techniques, movement, breathing exercises, and coping strategies that encourage emotional regulation and lifelong wellness. She launched the Elmira City School District’s yoga and mindfulness program in 2018 and continues to expand its positive impact throughout the community.

Ms. Janowsky earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport before completing a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Columbus State University. She later earned a Master of Science in Education from Elmira College and a Master of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, Management, and Administration from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Psychology at National University to further advance her expertise in holistic wellness and mind body healing.

Before entering education, Ms. Janowsky began her professional career as a probation and parole officer, an experience that strengthened her understanding of trauma, human behavior, and the importance of compassionate intervention. She later transitioned into elementary education, where she discovered her passion for supporting children through relationship based learning and emotional wellness.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Janowsky is a Registered Yoga Teacher, Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher, Trauma Informed Organization practitioner, Worksite Wellness Specialist, and Mindful Warrior Yoga Teacher. She also teaches community yoga classes and provides individualized support for children and families. As an accomplished author, she has written several children’s books, including A Mountain of Wisdom, There Was a Young Yogi Who Did Cow Pose, and Minka’s Menagerie of Friends, helping young readers develop mindfulness, confidence, and emotional well being through engaging stories.

Looking ahead, Ms. Janowsky plans to continue expanding her work in trauma informed education, yoga, and holistic wellness while completing her doctoral studies. Guided by her philosophy of relationship based healing and family centered support, she remains committed to empowering children and educators with the tools needed to build healthy minds, strong relationships, and resilient communities for generations to come.
