Dr. Mary Murphy Natoli has devoted nearly four decades to advancing educational excellence, earning recognition for her visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to student achievement, and dedication to creating inclusive learning environments. A hardworking child of immigrants, Dr. Natoli learned early in life the value of perseverance and came to understand education as the pathway to opportunity and future success. Those principles became the foundation of a career dedicated to empowering students, educators, and school communities.
Most recently serving as Principal of the Elmont Union Free School District from 2012 until her retirement, Dr. Natoli led more than 100 faculty and staff members while implementing innovative strategies that enhanced student achievement, strengthened community partnerships, and promoted a culture of lifelong learning. Her leadership centered on aligning the school’s mission with measurable student success while creating an environment in which educators and students were encouraged to reach their full potential.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Natoli served as an Assistant Principal with the New York City Department of Education. Working alongside Evelyn Terrell, she contributed to efforts that successfully helped remove their school from the New York State SURR list, a significant accomplishment reflecting improvements in school performance and student achievement. Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself through expertise in academic leadership, curriculum development, school administration, instructional excellence, organizational leadership, and community engagement.
Dr. Natoli earned her Doctor of Education in School Leadership from St. John’s University in 2016. She also holds a Master of Science in Reading Education from Brooklyn College, a Master of Science in Administration and Supervision from Touro University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Fordham University, earned in 1988.
Her commitment to education has extended well beyond her professional responsibilities. Dr. Natoli was an active PTA member for more than 20 years, further demonstrating her belief in the importance of family and community involvement in student success. She has dedicated her career to closing achievement gaps among diverse student populations, mentoring educators, strengthening instructional practices, and fostering learning environments built on equity, collaboration, and opportunity.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to education, Dr. Natoli was selected as the 2026 Top School Principal of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals. She has been invited to receive the honor at the organization’s Annual Awards Gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York in December 2026 and is under consideration for the Empowered Woman of the Year Award and a feature in TIP Magazine. Her additional distinctions include recognition among the Top 100 Women in the Country by Influential Women in USA, inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who, and congressional recognition from the Nassau County Executive for her work in closing achievement gaps among various student subgroups.

Dr. Natoli credits former superintendent Al Harper and interim superintendent Dr. Kenneth Card as influential mentors who contributed to her professional development and leadership journey. Outside of education, she enjoys playing golf, traveling, and spending meaningful time with her family.
Looking ahead, Dr. Natoli is exploring opportunities to return to education in an instructional coaching capacity, where she hopes to mentor and support educators and administrators in achieving excellence. Guided by perseverance, collaboration, lifelong learning, and service, she remains committed to fostering academic excellence and empowering others to succeed. Her journey from the hardworking child of immigrants who recognized education as the key to opportunity to an accomplished educational leader reflects the values she has spent nearly four decades instilling in generations of students and educators.
