Dr. Curtis L. Based at the Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic with SIU Medicine in Sherman, Illinois, Dr. Johnston not only provides hands-on care to patients but also plays an integral role in shaping the next generation of physicians as an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Specializing in osteopathic manipulation, Dr. Johnston brings a unique and highly focused approach to patient care, one that emphasizes the interrelationship between structure and function in the body. His dedication to teaching OMT has earned him a respected reputation among residents and peers alike. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, where he currently holds the role of Treasurer, Chairs the Membership Committee, and represents the state at the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates.

Dr. Johnston’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and a Doctor of Osteopathy from A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri . He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Southern Illinois University, where he remains a committed member of the universitie’s clinic and hospital faculty as an Assistant Professor where he educates and trains the next generation of physicians.

In addition to his clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Johnston is an active community member, participating in local initiatives such as Crimestoppers, local foster programs, and school programs. His professional affiliations include the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, Illinois College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Johnston credits much of his success to the support of his family. He extends his heartfelt gratitude to his parents, Terri Crouch, and Mark and Cassie Johnston, as well as his grandmother, Patricia Hart, as well as multiple other family members, friends, and mentors that are too many to mention. He has been married to fellow physician Amanda Krus-Johnston, DO, for eight years, and together they are raising two children. Dr. Johnston enjoys the outdoors with activities including gardening, maintaining his small home orchard, BBQ, hot sauce making, and sausage making.
