Divyen Patel – Founder

Arlington, TN – Dr. Divyen Patel is recognized as a Pinnacle Professional Member of the Inner Circle of Excellence for leadership, vision, and contributions to advancing genomics in cancer research and biotechnology. Divyen Patel, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Continental Who’s Who, a distinction reserved for individuals who demonstrate significant professional achievement, leadership, visibility, and impact within their respective fields. Divyen Patel is a respected scholar, visionary scientist, and innovative entrepreneur.

Dr. Patel is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Genome Explorations. Since founding Genome Explorations in 2001, he has driven the growth of a research program that has produced more than 180 peer-reviewed publications, each serving as proof of concept for novel diagnostic approaches with promising therapeutic potential.

Dr. Patel has established a distinguished career at the intersection of genomics, cancer research, and biotechnology innovation. Genome Explorations became the first genomic organization to provide research services to institutions worldwide and to apply foundational cancer-profiling tools toward designing precision, patient-specific treatments. Under Dr. Patel’s leadership, Genome Explorations has built a robust research pipeline. Within its first year of operation, the company secured global clients including Harvard University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the Louis Pasteur Institute in France, the Hong Kong Institute of Technology, and the Indian Institute of Technology. Dr. Patel further expanded the company’s international footprint by establishing subsidiaries in Hyderabad, India; Bordeaux, France; and Sheffield, United Kingdom, enabling service to European, UK, and Irish markets—achievements accomplished without venture capital funding.

Dr. Patel’s scientific approach emphasizes global genomic profiling to identify root causes of disease and guide personalized treatment strategies. He developed a novel methodology that led to a Department of Defense contract for a blood-based test capable of differentiating traumatic brain injury from post-traumatic stress disorder with 87 percent reproducibility and 99 percent accuracy. Genome Explorations has since expanded its scope beyond oncology to include Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and other complex disorders. Each biological sample processed by the company undergoes between 2.7 million and 3.2 billion tests, reflecting a rigorous, high-throughput, and data-intensive platform.

Prior to founding Genome Explorations, Dr. Patel served as director of the microarray facility at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital from 1995 to 2001. He also held concurrent roles as director (1993–2001) and division director (1992–2001), during which time he contributed to the development of diagnostic technologies that now support precision oncology and have helped increase pediatric cancer cure rates. In 2003, Dr. Patel was invited to help initiate the Precision Medicine Board in Washington, D.C., supporting early efforts toward targeted cancer therapies.

Dr. Patel earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Liverpool John Moores University in 1987 and a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical medicine and molecular biology from the University of Leeds in 1992. During his doctoral studies, he published 15 papers on cancer and leukemia, an accomplishment that prompted his recruitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the United States.

Widely regarded as a trusted authority in genomics and biotechnology, Dr. Patel frequently consults with physicians, professors, and chief scientists on complex diagnostic evaluations, treatment planning, and research design. He is known for engaging collaborators through in-depth discussions to understand scientific objectives and for creating customized experimental protocols that uphold rigorous quality control standards.

Throughout his career, Dr. Patel has been featured in numerous national and international publications and has received honors including Businessman of the Year and Innovative Contributor of the Year. Genome Explorations and Dr. Patel have collectively earned many national and international awards recognizing their contributions to health care over the past 25 years. Dr. Patel is also recognized as a Pinnacle Professional Member of the Inner Circle of Excellence for his leadership and vision in advancing genomics and biotechnology.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Patel volunteers his time assisting colleagues and physicians with case reviews and diagnostic interpretation, reinforcing his commitment to improving patient outcomes. He was born in Kampala into an internationally oriented family and later relocated to England. His younger brothers have built successful technology careers with Oracle Corporation and Motorola Solutions, while another brother worked with Bass Brewery in the United Kingdom.

Outside the laboratory, Dr. Patel composes music, performs with his band, and enjoys cooking. Looking to the future, Dr. Patel remains dedicated to expanding genomic technologies across a wide range of diseases while sustaining a diversified pipeline of diagnostics and therapeutics. Planned innovations include a blood-based biomarker test for traumatic brain injury and PTSD, a pan-genomic medication response evaluation, and genomic panels derived from COVID-19 research to identify mutations associated with disease severity and predisposition probabilities for numerous cancers.

Continental Who’s Who has chronicled the lives of the world’s most accomplished individuals. Dr. Patel’s inclusion reflects a career defined by scientific excellence, entrepreneurial vision, and a lasting commitment to advancing human health through genomics.
