Dr. C. Emily Feistritzer, a pioneer in education leadership and teacher preparation, has spent more than five decades reshaping how educators are trained and empowered around the world. Born in rural Kentucky and raised in a family of teachers, Dr. Feistritzer’s journey began in the one-room schoolhouses of Moreland and has since spanned continents, influencing thousands of aspiring educators through innovation and bold leadership.
Dr. Feistritzer holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with minors in chemistry and mathematics from Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, a master’s in physics and mathematics education from the College of William & Mary, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Indiana University Bloomington. Her academic foundation has informed a lifelong mission to elevate teacher training and education reform.
Following the $52 million sale of her groundbreaking company TeachNow, Dr. Feistritzer launched the Future Teaching Institute in 2021—a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit focused on global teacher development through data science, artificial intelligence, and scholarship-driven access. In 2024, she also founded TeacherSpeak, a platform amplifying educator voices, which she led until 2025.
Her influence extends beyond the classroom. A prolific author, Dr. Feistritzer wrote Alternative Routes to Teacher, published by Prentice Hall, and was a regular contributor to White House Weekly and Department of Education Weekly. In 2019, she was honored as one of Inc. Magazine’s Top Ten Groundbreakers in their Female Founders 100 list.
