Corry Jeb Kucik, MD, MA, DMCC, FASA, FCCP, FCCM, FACHE, has established a distinguished career at the intersection of academic medicine, critical care, and military healthcare leadership. As a Full Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington, he is recognized for his contributions to patient care, medical education, and global health leadership.
Dr. Kucik plays a central role in training the next generation of physicians at Harborview Medical Center, where he focuses on neurotrauma, spine, and burn care, and at UW Montlake Hospital, where he provides critical care in intensive care and oncology settings. His work emphasizes operating effectively under pressure, a principle shaped by decades of experience in both clinical and high stakes operational environments.
With expertise spanning anesthesiology, critical care medicine, pain medicine, trauma and disaster medicine, and undersea and hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Kucik has built a reputation for excellence in complex and demanding medical settings. His academic foundation includes a Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine, along with advanced education in international relations, crisis management, and leadership from institutions including the Wharton School and Harvard Kennedy School.
Dr. Kucik’s career includes more than three decades of distinguished service in the United States Navy, where he held senior leadership roles including Force Surgeon for Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces South, and Navy Anesthesiology Specialty Leader serving as a consultant to the Surgeon General. He also served as Oversight Chief Medical Officer at U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay and deployed as a Senior Intensivist at NATO Role 3 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kucik has overseen large scale medical readiness and healthcare delivery operations, managed the professional development of more than 180 Navy anesthesiologists, and contributed to national and international healthcare strategy. His leadership extended to critical response efforts, including service on Washington State’s COVID-19 Critical Care Collaborative and triage leadership during the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade incident.
An accomplished scholar, Dr. Kucik has co edited Essentials of Disaster Anesthesia through Cambridge University Press and authored more than 50 publications, along with delivering over 150 formal presentations. His contributions to medical education and research continue to influence the fields of anesthesiology and disaster medicine.
His professional excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Rising Star Award from the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
