Bedford, MA — Donna M. Rogers, BSN, RN, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Trusted Registered Nurse for her work in the Medical field and in acknowledgment of her work at Southcoast Health St. Luke’s Hospital.
For as long as she can remember, Ms. Rogers has always dreamed of a career in Nursing. She began her college education at Southern Massachusetts University, where Ms. Rogers earned a Registered Nurse certification in 1981. She later earned additional licensure in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support. Over her long career at Southcoast Health St. Luke’s Hospital, she has continued to take courses in the newest information and procedures in her field.
Ms. Rogers has worked at Southcoast Health for more than four decades. As a Critical Care Nurse, she has mainly worked in a step-down cardiac unit. Many of her patients have had heart attacks, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or other critical cardiac or pulmonary issues. She works closely with patients to assess their symptoms and manage their care.
Here, she manages a team of Registered Nurses. She assigns nurses’ duties, provides patient care, and oversees staffing. She is especially proud of her performance during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which nurses and medical professionals were under exceptional strain. Ms. Rogers was able to adapt quickly to these circumstances, and guided the team of nurses she is mentoring through the patient increase during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a lifelong dedication to Nursing, Ms. Rogers has no plans for retirement any time soon. She finds her day-to-day work with both patients and medical staff to be very fulfilling, and she loves to help people every day. Her advice for young medical professionals is to be helpful, willing to educate others, and able to listen without passing judgment.
After spending so many decades in this specialty, she has lots of knowledge to share with others. As a mentor, she loves to see her mentees succeed and embark upon their career paths. She says, “Nursing requires dedicated compassion, caring, and a desire to be a caregiver, because people rely on you and, in many cases, are trusting you with their lives.”
She has been recognized for her career accomplishments by IssueWire in 2021, and Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses in 2021. Her employer, Southcoast Health, honored her with a 35-year milestone award at the Employee Recognition Banquet in 2016. Also a 40-year milestone award this year. In her professional affiliations, Ms. Rogers is a former member of the Nursing Council.
Ms. Rogers is grateful to the many teachers, mentors, and managers who have guided her along her career path. She would like to dedicate this honorable recognition to her parents, Richard Russek Sr. and Eileen Furtado, who have supported her no matter what.
On a personal note, Ms. Rogers enjoys spending her free time with her husband Richard Joseph Rogers, her three stepchildren, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include family game nights, reading, baking, and cooking.
