He completed his general surgical residency and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Obney’s service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps spans 13 years, including his role as a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
In his current roles, Dr. Obney serves as a Staff Physician at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, OH, and as a Staff Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Mount Carmel Medical Group in Columbus, OH. He has previously held positions as Section Chief of Cardiac Surgery at James Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL, and Chief of Cardiac Surgery in private practice in Texas. Dr. Obney also contributed significantly as Deputy Chief of Surgery Department in a private practice in Texas and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.
Dr. Obney is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and volunteers with the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walks for survivors of cardiac events. His career accomplishments include establishing a robotic lung surgery program at Mount Carmel and Fairfield Medical Center and extensive experience in various cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
