Dr. Janet B. Arrowsmith has built a distinguished career spanning medicine, public health, and consulting, supported by deep expertise in internal medicine, epidemiology, and regulatory science. Since 2008, she has served as president and sole proprietor of Arrowsmith Consulting LLC, providing specialized medical, epidemiological, and regulatory guidance to organizations operating under U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory oversight as well as providing expert reports and testimony related to FDA regulated industries.
Dr. Arrowsmith earned her medical degree from Tulane University, completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a fellowship in epidemiology through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While serving FDA, CDC, and the Indian Health Service as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, she achieved the rank of 06 Captain. Over the course of her career, she has maintained a strong commitment to advancing public health through both clinical practice and regulatory leadership, which was recognized in this promotion.
At this point in her career, she is passionate about community service. She serves on the Board of Directors of a legal and advocacy non-profit called Prison Lights Inc (PLI) (https://prisonlights.org). PLI’s mission is to expose the widespread violations of fundamental human rights in health care, mental health treatment, and basic nutrition within our prison industrial complex. Across our country incarcerated people suffer and die from untreated illnesses, psychiatric crises, and inedible food while private contractors and government agencies escape accountability. PLI strives to illuminate, litigate, and force change by educating, training, and equipping the legal warriors who can hold this broken system accountable. PLI is a remarkable organization with an important mission.
Dr. Arrowsmith remains professionally affiliated with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the New Mexico Medical Association, and the American College of Epidemiology. In addition, she served as board president of NM Organized Against Human Trafficking (NM OATH) and currently serves on the board of both Trinity House Catholic Worker in Albuquerque as well as Prison Lights Inc.
