Dr. Jay Bernstein is a distinguished Pediatric Ophthalmologist and a partner with Advocare Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates for about 30 years. He practices Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult and Child Strabismus. His clinical interests include botulinum toxin as a substitute to surgery and the use of local sedation for adult strabismus surgery.

Advocare Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates have offices located in Union, Morris, and Bergen counties. Dr. Bernstein is dedicated to offering quality pediatric ophthalmologic care for infants through the teenage years at the practice. He also treats adults with eye muscle disorders. Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Bernstein teaches the Pediatric residents from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ on pediatric ophthalmic through a rotation in his practice.

Inspired by his father, a physician, Dr. Bernstein received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Then he underwent fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology/Strabismus at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. Dr. Bernstein is board certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and fellowship trained in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult and Child Strabismus by The American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

To remain abreast of the latest advancements in his field, Dr. Bernstein is a member of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ section of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

On a personal note, Dr. Bernstein enjoys sailing, skiing, hiking, cooking, and wine tasting in his spare time. He volunteered as a pediatric ophthalmology consultant at both St Joseph’s School for the Blind and Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Jersey.

Dr. Bernstein is married and has two children.
