Jean R. Mineo has established a distinguished career in arts and cultural leadership, dedicating her professional life to creating meaningful connections between artists, audiences, and communities. As Executive Director of Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, Massachusetts, she is leading an ambitious effort to transform a historic site into a vibrant performing arts and education destination that serves residents throughout the region.
Ms. Mineo oversees the strategic vision and day to day operations of Bellforge Arts Center, including fundraising, programming, construction coordination, community engagement, and partnership development. She currently leads a $25 million capital campaign focused on transforming two historic buildings at the former Medfield State Hospital into a dynamic cultural campus that will provide expanded opportunities for artistic expression, education, and community connection.
Widely respected for her expertise in nonprofit arts leadership, community arts programming, capital campaign management, and historic preservation, Ms. Mineo has built a reputation for bringing together diverse stakeholders around a shared vision. Her work requires navigating complex municipal partnerships while balancing the preservation of historically significant structures with the development of innovative cultural programming.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial and Interior Design from Rochester Institute of Technology before completing a Master of Arts in Arts Management at American University in Washington, D.C. Her educational background has provided a strong foundation for her leadership in both the artistic and operational aspects of nonprofit cultural organizations.
Prior to joining Bellforge Arts Center, Ms. Mineo began her career with a national arts agency and later served in leadership roles with a community based arts center in Newton, Massachusetts. These experiences strengthened her understanding of how the arts can enrich communities, foster dialogue, and create opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds to engage with creativity.
Throughout her career, she has remained committed to developing programs that bring artists and audiences together while ensuring that the arts remain accessible and relevant to the communities they serve. Her leadership at Bellforge Arts Center reflects this commitment through programming that celebrates artistic excellence, community participation, and cultural exchange.
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Mineo is affiliated with Medfield Cares About Prevention and remains actively involved in community initiatives that promote positive engagement and well being. She also enjoys creating art in her personal time, maintaining a direct connection to the creative process that inspires her professional work.
Ms. Mineo credits Artistic Director Paul Armstrong as an important mentor whose guidance has influenced her approach to community building and support for up and coming artists.
Looking toward the future, she plans to advance additional phases of development at Bellforge Arts Center that will support visual artists, culinary arts programming, and expanded community centered creative initiatives. Her long term vision also includes restoring a historic agricultural field on the property to reintroduce food production and connect the site’s rich history with a vibrant and sustainable cultural future.
