Ms. Serna is well-known in the field for her work on the landmark case Rudy Ochoa vs. County of Santa Clara (1985). The attorney stated that this is the most notable and heart-wrenching case in which she worked. The attorney explained that Rudy Ochoa was in a juvenile center and had pneumonia. The administration of the juvenile center refused to move Rudy to an intensive care unit and he did not receive adequate care from the nurses or physicians. Under their care, Rudy, died. Ms. Serna credits her team for their five years of hard work on this case that reached the California Supreme Court. it is cited in multiple elderly abuse law cases.
Dedicated to staying abreast in additions and changes to law, Ms. Serna is a member of the California Bar Association. She has also served on the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys of California; is the former president of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association; and The La Raza Lawyers Association for Santa Clara County.
