Kimberly P. Liang MD, FACR — Top Rheumatologist

Pittsburg, PA — Kimberly P. Liang MD, FACR, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Rheumatologist for her outstanding contributions in the medical field and her exemplary contributions at the University of Pittsburg, Lupus Center of Excellence.

Dr. Liang MD, FACR, a well-respected rheumatology specialist and pain management specialist, has garnered a commendable reputation for her clinical and research excellence. She is currently serving the medical community at the University of Pittsburg Lupus Center of Excellence, where she excels in all facets of her work. She often treats patients with lupus, vasculitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. 

At the Lupus Center of Excellence, Dr. Liang is dedicated to providing the best possible care for her patients. Her clinical interests include vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis primarily, but also other connective tissue diseases and autoimmune diseases such as psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthropathies, and sarcoidosis.

She is actively engaged in multiple clinical trials and observational studies of patients and pursuing other areas of research. Throughout her career, she has received various grants from NIH for her studies. Dr. Liang focuses her research on evaluating risks, determinants, and management strategies of premature cardiovascular disease in RA patients, through the use of novel non-invasive vascular studies that serve as measures of subclinical atherosclerosis and surrogate markers of future CVD events. She is particularly proud of her research grants from the NIH, where she researched the effects of Sildenafil on Endothelial Dysfunction in Rheumatoid Arthritis, as well as Identifying Vulnerable Plaque in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Among her academic achievements, Dr. Liang obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University in 2000. Her distinguished medical career began after earning her Medical Degree in 2002 from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she was also inducted into the Hobart Amory Hare Medical Honor Society in 2000 and the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society in 2001. As her medical training continued, she completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the Mayo Clinic in 2005, followed by a Rheumatology Fellowship at the same institution in 2008. In that same year, she was the recipient of The Philip S. Hench Award for Excellence in Rheumatology, and was nominated for the Mayo Clinic Department of Medicine Summerskill Award from the Mayo Clinic. In 2016, she received her Masters of Science in Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh.

With a commitment to excellence, Dr. Liang is board-certified in Rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatologists and an active member of the American College of Physicians.
