Melissa K. Stein, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is being recognized for her leadership in cardiovascular medicine and her role in helping establish one of Brevard County’s few specialized programs dedicated to the treatment of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), improving access to care for hundreds of patients throughout the region.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner with Health First Medical Group in Melbourne, Florida, she provides comprehensive cardiovascular care while helping patients navigate complex conditions through compassionate treatment and education.
Ms. Stein specializes in heart failure management, lipid disorders, cardio-oncology, general cardiology, and autonomic dysfunction, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). As a bilingual provider fluent in both English and Spanish, she is dedicated to improving access to cardiovascular care for diverse patient populations while ensuring patients receive individualized treatment plans that promote long-term health and well-being.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nutrition and Spanish from the University of Houston before completing an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University in 2012. She later earned a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Sacred Heart University in 2023. She holds dual national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner through both the American Nurses Credentialing Center (FNP-BC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FNP-C), in addition to maintaining Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
Throughout her healthcare career, Ms. Stein has demonstrated a strong commitment to clinical excellence. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she spent 12 years as a registered nurse with Yale New Haven Health, caring for surgical, trauma, and cardiothoracic patients in intensive care and post-anesthesia settings, including the cardiovascular intensive care unit. This extensive critical care experience provided a strong foundation for her transition into advanced practice cardiology.
Among her most notable achievements is her role in helping develop one of the few specialized POTS programs in Brevard County alongside Dr. Polanco. Through this specialized program, she has helped build a clinical service that currently cares for approximately 200 patients with POTS while also providing cardiovascular care to thousands of patients throughout the community. Her dedication to advancing patient care was also recognized through the Outstanding Capstone Award from Sacred Heart University in 2023 for her work examining diabetes management and telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“My goal is to empower patients through education, prevention, and compassionate care so they can take an active role in improving their cardiovascular health,” said Ms. Stein. “Helping patients navigate complex conditions and achieve better outcomes is the most rewarding part of my work.”
Ms. Stein maintains active membership in several professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the National Lipid Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Looking ahead, Ms. Stein plans to continue expanding access to specialized cardiovascular care while mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals through teaching, educational outreach, and professional development opportunities.
