Dr. McConnell earned a Bachelor’s degree in both Psychology and Microbiology & Cell science from the University of Florida. She was part of the inaugural medical school class and earned her medical degree from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Louisville in Kentucky where she served as chief resident in her final year and was part of the wellness initiative within her program.
Dr. McConnell currently serves at Women’s Care operating out of the office in Brandon Florida. She can also be found on staff at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital & St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her areas of interest include high-risk obstetrics family planning and menopause.
During residency, Dr. McConnell presented research on the effects of pessaries on the vaginal microenvironment at a national conference and was published in the Gold Journal. She also took a special interest in da Vinci robotic surgery and became robotic certified.
The doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and notes that the mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards certify obstetricians and gynecologists and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge practice and professionalism in women’s health. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and the American Medical Women’s Association.
According to Dr. McConnell, obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy childbirth and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system vagina uterus ovaries and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist specializes in the diagnosis treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders that affect women such as breast cancer cervical cancer and menopause. Additionally, they work with expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies during childbirth and into postpartum. Dr. McConnell is considered an expert in gynecology, minimally invasive surgery, high risk, and multiple births.
The doctor notes that her mentors are Dr. Daniel Messinger and Dr. Ashley Bergen.
