Highly qualified and highly trained, Orthopaedic surgeon, Richard S. Orthopaedic residents come to train in orthopaedic trauma under the direction of Dr. Schenk with the aid of his partners. As a highly respected, fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Schenk currently serves as the Managing Director at Atlantic Orthopaedic Associates and the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Morristown Medical Center. He is also the former Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center. Offering nearly 30 years of extensive experience, Dr. Schenk continues to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and integrity when he is practicing medicine, teaching residents, and sharing his breadth of expertise. Alongside his clinical roles, he is affiliated with Morristown Memorial Hospital and Emmaus Surgical Center.

Born and raised in New York, Dr. Schenk received his Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry in 1980 from Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences. His acclaimed career began in 1984 after he obtained his Medical Degree from Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School, formerly known as the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ. Soon thereafter, he went on to complete his General Surgery Internship and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ. Then he completed his Orthopaedic Trauma & Joint Reconstruction Fellowship from the University of Toronto at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center in 1991 under renowned leaders of Orthopaedic Trauma, such as James Kellam, Marvin Tile and Joseph Schatzker. With a commitment to excellence, he remains a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

To treat his patients with the highest quality care, Dr. Schenk remains abreast of the latest advancements in orthopedic surgery as a distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He maintains active memberships and affiliations with several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, AO/ASIF North American Teaching Faculty, AO Alumni Association, AO North America, and the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society.

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Schenk is the recipient of many awards and accolades throughout his career. He received the American Medical Association Recognition Award and the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award. He has also been listed among America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America, and the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Orthopaedic Educator as voted by the Orthopaedic Residents from Monmouth Medical Center.
