Robert W. DeVore has built a distinguished career spanning healthcare consulting, real estate, and executive leadership, with a focus on strategy, governance, and organizational effectiveness within complex healthcare systems. As president of Stonybrook, he provides senior level consulting services addressing management, risk, and structural challenges in healthcare and medical professional liability.
Mr. DeVore’s expertise includes healthcare real estate management, risk management, and executive strategy, as well as the development of systems designed to improve patient safety and reduce clinical errors. His work has included creating databases and algorithms that contributed to reducing errors and improving outcomes within healthcare environments.
At age 29, Mr. DeVore co founded Health Systems Inc., where he served as chairman and chief executive officer. Under his leadership, the organization oversaw nearly one billion dollars in healthcare facility developments and represented more than 500 hospitals, health systems, medical schools, and long term care facilities. The company was ultimately sold to NuMed Management, marking a significant milestone in his career.
His professional experience also includes oversight at CRICO Strategies, supporting 25 Harvard affiliated institutions, 14,000 physicians, and 125,000 employees. In addition, he has been involved in healthcare real estate and risk management initiatives at Wentworth by the Sea and Sky Meadow. Earlier in his career, he served in the Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972, where he led planning efforts to reintroduce Air Force fighter aircraft from Vietnam into the 101st. That effort was adopted by the US Airforce for all aircraft and mission conversions.
Mr. DeVore’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in architectural sciences and Russian literature from Harvard University, as well as a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He was also awarded the Julia Amory Appleton Traveling Fellowship, which supported his study of the evolution of Asian architecture from India to Japan.
He has remained actively involved in numerous boards and advisory roles, including the University of Vermont SPARK Program, the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, and Florida Gulf Coast University’s Water School. He has also served as a board member of the National Patient Safety Foundation and as planned giving chair for Phillips Exeter Academy.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. DeVore enjoys sailing and sailboat racing, often serving as skipper. He was born and raised in Northern Michigan and credits his upbringing in his family’s restaurant business as an early influence on his work ethic and leadership approach.
