Pikeville, KY — Ruth Faye Lavigne, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Distinguished Radiation Oncologist in the field of Medicine in acknowledgment for her devotion to patient-centered care with Pikeville Medical Center.

A board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Lavigne has garnered 14 years of extensive knowledge and professional experience specializing in breast and pediatric cancer. She has devoted six years in her current position at Pikeville Medical Center providing expert services in the treatment of breast and women’s cancer, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and image-guided radiation therapy. She is affiliated with the Leonard Lawson Cancer Center.
Although she knew from the tender age of two that she wanted to be a doctor, she was 32 — a mother of two small children — working as a waitress in San Diego when she realized she needed a change in her life. To prepare for her career, Dr. Lavigne’s path to medicine took her through various cities and industries. She completed her undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Furthering her studies, she received her Master’s of Business Administration degree from the American Graduate School of Int. Management in 1982 and began her career as a broker with a money management company.
Quickly realizing the corporate world wasn’t for her, she moved to San Diego with her husband and their growing family in 1985, she decided to become a banquet waitress. At the age of 36, she received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she completed her residency in radiation oncology and served as Chief Resident. Dr. Lavigne is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Remaining abreast of the latest industry advancements, Dr. Lavigne maintains active memberships and affiliations with the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASRO) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Lavigne has been named one of the Best Doctors in America® for 2017-2018. The prestigious recognition marks the ninth time that she has earned this honor. She has also been named as Oncology Professional Hero and as Best Doctor in America for June 2007.
Dr. Lavigne dedicates this recognition to her mother, Cathy Conheim, who was a social worker at a radiation oncologist, and her father, Dr. Myron Moskowitz, who was always her hero and an influential radiologist at the University of Cincinnati, where he pioneered the Mammography. Dr. Lavigne also dedicates this to Dr. Berni Aron.
