Dr. Susan O. Schall is a prominent figure in the fields of engineering and consulting, bringing over twenty years of extensive experience to her role as the founder and lead consultant of SOS Consulting, LLC. Dr. Schall established her first consulting practice, Susan O. Schall Process Improvement Consulting, in 1999, where she served as president until 2002. She then took on the role of methodology director at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, Inc., before returning to her consulting roots in 2004 to create SOS Consulting. Under her leadership, the firm focuses on transforming small U.S. manufacturing workplaces into efficient environments capable of competing both now and in the future.

Dr. Schall’s educational background is impressive, holding a Bachelor of Science in mathematics (1981) and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering (1982) from Pennsylvania State University. She further advanced her studies at the same institution, earning a Master of Science in industrial engineering in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy in the same field in 1988.

Her credentials include being an ASQ Certified Engineer and a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence. Additionally, Dr. Schall is certified in the Six Types of Working Genius and holds the esteemed title of Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Throughout her career, Dr. Schall has been actively involved in professional organizations. She previously served as a member of the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. Her leadership roles also include past president, vice president, and board member of the Penn State Engineering Society.

Dr. Schall’s contributions to the industry have been recognized with numerous accolades, including Engineering Excellence Bronze and Silver Awards from DuPont Engineering in 1990 and 1992, respectively. In 2018, she received the Medallion Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, which also honored her as a fellow in 2020. Furthermore, she has earned various alumni awards from Pennsylvania State University.
