Denise M. Geiger has built a distinguished career in special education, recognized for her leadership in transition services and her unwavering commitment to empowering students with disabilities. As Senior Transition Coordinator for Special Education at Leander Independent School District and founder of Tiger Futures, LLC, she has dedicated nearly four decades to improving outcomes for students and families.
Mrs. Geiger is widely respected for her expertise in transition services, deaf education, and systems design. Her work focuses on preparing students ages 3 to 22 for independence through coordinated services, self determination training, and advocacy that encourages active participation in their own futures. She has also developed curriculum and programs, including Transition English, which supports students in high school who have traditionally accessed modified content within the English Language Arts, and programs which support students between the ages of 18 to 22 so that they are building life and career readiness skills. The 18+ Transition Services began with an idea and no teachers and grew from 1 teacher to now 10 teachers and a principal.
A pioneer in her field, Mrs. Geiger created the senior transition coordinator role and established the transition department at Leander ISD in 1999. Under her leadership, the program expanded from one job coach to a team of more than 40 professionals, serving students across the district. Another incredible feat was her leadership to grow the 18+ Transition Services from just an idea to 1 teacher to now 10 teachers and a principal. Her work has advanced systems that align services with measurable outcomes while strengthening staff training and student support.
In recognition of her lasting impact, the Denise M. Geiger Compass Center was dedicated in her honor on September 6, 2025. The facility serves over 150 students ages 18 and older, reflecting her legacy of innovation and commitment to student success.
