Dr. Daniel J. Chiego has devoted nearly 50 years to dentistry and higher education, shaping the future of oral health through his longstanding role as associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Since 1976, he has taught all four years of dental coursework and graduate-level classes focused on pulp biology, the musculoskeletal system, and tooth development. His leadership in the Pathways Program—where he contributes 10 percent of the curriculum—reflects his deep impact on academic innovation and excellence.
Dr. Chiego earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bloomfield College and went on to complete both a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Basic Medical Science at New York University. He is a member of the American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research, the American Association of Anatomists, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
His publication, Essentials of Oral Histology and Embryology: A Clinical Approach, became a top-30 bestseller in its field. He has also authored 50 scholarly articles, contributing significantly to advancements in pulp biology and dental science.
