Joel H. Third, a distinguished professional engineer and passionate advocate for historical preservation, has made remarkable strides in promoting colonial history and culture through his leadership at the Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Serving as president from 2012 to 2016, Mr. Third was a driving force in transforming the historic site into an immersive house museum that captivates visitors with its 300-year legacy.

A 1960 graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Third has blended his technical expertise with his deep appreciation for art and history to spearhead the museum’s expansion. His leadership has elevated the Keeler Tavern Museum into a national treasure, attracting audiences with innovative exhibits and educational programs that highlight colonial life and its cultural significance.

Mr. Third’s contributions to the Ridgefield community and beyond have earned him widespread recognition. He is a certified professional engineer in New Jersey and a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, though he is not currently active. His efforts have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including a civic award from the Ridgefield Old Timers Association in 2024, the title of honoree at the Keeler Tavern Museum Gala in 2022, and recognition from both the Town of Ridgefield and the Connecticut State Assembly in 2019.

In addition to his work in historical preservation, Mr. Third enjoys birdwatching, hiking, and collecting antique maps and prints. His passion for community-focused design has inspired engaging exhibits that connect audiences with history in meaningful ways.

Currently, Joel H. Third has an Audubon Exhibit at the Ridgefield Library for the month of March. Additionally, he serves as a board member of SOAR Together, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community enrichment and cultural learning, furthering his commitment to inspiring future generations through history and the arts.
