Dr. William D. Altig, a highly respected optometrist with an impressive 31-year career in eye care, is celebrating over three decades of providing exceptional eyewear, contact lenses, and eye examinations for patients of all ages in the Fort Worth community.

With a passion for ensuring the visual health and well-being of his patients, Dr. Altig has become a trusted name in optometry. He has dedicated his career to listening attentively to his patients’ concerns and needs, guaranteeing they receive the highest quality care and personalized solutions.

Dr. Altig’s academic journey began at Kearney State College, now known as the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree. He furthered his education by obtaining his Doctor of Optometry (OD) from the University of Houston. His commitment to excellence in eye care led him to pursue additional certification in ocular therapeutics and glaucoma.

As a testament to his dedication to the community, Dr. Altig actively participates in charitable initiatives. He annually provides free eye examinations through the Lion’s Club for 2 to 3 Saturdays, extending his services to those in need. Moreover, his practice has donated over 5,000 pairs of eyewear to individuals who require assistance.

Dr. Altig’s remarkable career began in 1985, and in 1992, he established Altig Optical, a practice aimed at furthering his commitment to delivering top-notch eye care to the Fort Worth community. Over the years, he has earned a reputation for his expertise and genuine care for his patients. He attributes much of his success to following his philosophy to “listen to your patents-they will tell you what is wrong!” The doctor also acknowledges the positive impact his mentor and grandfather, Dr. William V. Drost, had on his career. He notes that his first optometrist was Dr. James Ten Eyck and his first employer was Dr. William J. Luck.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Altig shares a love for travel, with cruising being a particular passion. He and his wife, Mrs. Mary Altig, also bond over their support for college football, where they proudly cheer for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoys reading his favorite publication, The Review of Optometry.

In their personal life, Dr. Altig and Mrs. Altig are parents to two wonderful children, Amanda and Andrew, embodying the values of family and community that have defined Dr. Altig’s career.
