His groundbreaking work is currently under rigorous evaluation through clinical trials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Austin’s illustrious career in diagnostic microbiology is built upon a solid foundation of academic and professional achievements. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry in 1979, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1983, both from Oklahoma State University. His academic journey culminated with a PhD in Veterinary Microbiology and Immunobiology from Louisiana State University in 1988. Dr. Austin’s certifications include being accredited by the Oklahoma State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the U.S. Department of Agriculture during his tenure.
In his role as Corporate Scientific Officer at Sano Chemicals, Dr. Austin has played a pivotal role in co-founding the company and spearheading the development of a new antifungal medication. Under his leadership, Sano Chemicals was recognized as the Startup Company of the Year by Mississippi State University’s Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer in 2013. Dr. Austin’s contributions to academia are equally distinguished, having served as a Professor Emeritus at Mississippi State University since 2020, and previously as Director of Microbiology from 1998 to 2020. His impact on the field is also reflected in his extensive publication record, with more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Austin’s career has been marked by numerous accolades, including the Dean’s Pegasus Award for Teaching and Academic Excellence in 2009, the Walter & Jean Rothchild Faculty Award in 2011, and the Award for Appreciation and Gratitude from the Mississippi State University graduating class in 2012.
